2013 scholarship for Africans :The University of Michigan African researchers presidential program
The University of Michigan African Presidential Scholars Program (UMAPS) is designed to improve collaboration between early career teachers in Ghana, Liberia, Uganda and South Africa, and the students and faculty of the University of Michigan. It is also intended to support teacher development in Africa and strengthening the capacity of African institutions at home.
African researchers presidential ticket will be provided with round-trip from their home country in Ann Arbor, Michigan, housing and a stipend to cover living and research during their residency at the University of Michigan . Researchers begin their residence in September 2013.
Guidance on the project proposal:
Please make sure that your proposal includes objectives and the range of work you hope to complete within four to six months at UM. It is expected that many applicants will continue or end the search, they have already begun. If you intend to start a new research field, please explain how much of the topic that you would be able to cover and how you finish the job once back in your home country . Also note the likely results of your work at UM, for example the completion of a manuscript, article submission, etc.
Application and deadlines:
Applicants must submit:
• A completed application form
• A curriculum vitae
• A proposed scientific program, not to exceed five double-spaced pages
• A letter of support from the department chair or program director, dean or vice chancellor in the candidate’s home institution. This letter must: (1) indicate the commitment of the institution to continue to pay the salary of a university researcher during his leave Michigan. It should also (2) describe the applicant’s strengths and merits, and (3) how the candidate of Michigan residence contributes to the needs of the central university.
