2013 Fellowships for African students : TEG Postgraduate Training Fellowship in Medical Statistics for African Scientists
This award, which is funded by the British Council of Medical Research (MRC), provides support for a two-year training in medical statistics. For the first year, the candidate will study for the Master of Medical Statistics at the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine (LSHTM). This will be followed by attachment of one year of training in one of the African centers associated with the program Research Tropical Epidemiology Group (TEG) at LSHTM. When securing professional training fellows will develop their research skills and working on statistical studies under the guidance of TEG staff.
This support is intended to encourage excellence in the field of medical statistics and epidemiology in sub-Saharan Africa. The scholarship will cost fees, allowances (£ 14,000) and return air travel.
To be eligible, applicants must:
(i) be a resident and a national of a country in sub-Saharan Africa
(ii) be in possession of a good first degree with a background in mathematics, statistics or a related field
(iii) have at least 1 year of experience in medical statistics or epidemiological
Support will not be given in combination with other funding, or students who have other sources of funding.
