PhD research by Australia Awards in Africa (AAA)

Australian Government is pleased to offer PhD research scholarship opportunity in the field of Agriculture and Food Security. This program is offered by Australia Awards in Africa (AAA), initiative of Australian Government to promote development in Africa through a large-scale program of development scholarships and fellowships.


The objective of the Awards is to provide high-quality education and training to talented Africans who will be in a position, on their return home, to make an important contribution to national or regional development. PhD Awardees may additionally be eligible for a Contribution to Research Allowance to assist with research costs.



–         PhD Award applicants need to hold a Master’s degree with a research component

–         In most eligible countries, Awards are available to applicants from the public sector, civil society organisations and the private sector.

–         Strong applicants whose English language ability is not of the level required to succeed in academic study in Australia may be entitled to English language training before leaving for Australia to take up an Award.


Australia Awards in Africa targets equal participation by women and men.
