2015 Training Fellowship Scholarship in Medical Statistics for African Students

UK Medical Research Council (MRC) is offering training fellowship to undertake two years MSc training in Medical Statistics. For the first year the successful applicant will study for the MSc degree in Medical Statistics at the London School of Tropical Medicine and Hygiene (LSHTM). The fellowship will provide costs for fees, stipend (£15,000 per annum) and return air travel. The application deadline is 30th April 2015.

Study Subject(s): Fellowship is awarded in the field of medical statistics and epidemiology in sub-Saharan Africa.
Course Level: Fellowship is available to undertake MSc training at LSHTM followed by a year working as a statistician at one of partner centres in Africa.

Scholarship can be taken at:
UK (one year at LSHTM) and Africa (one year at one of the African centres associated with the research programme of the Tropical Epidemiology Group (TEG) at LSHTM).

Eligibility: Applicants must be resident in and a national of a country in sub-Saharan Africa (ii) be in possession of an excellent first degree with a background in mathematics, statistics or a related subject (iii) have at least 1 year of work experience in medical statistics or epidemiology.

Scholarship Open for International Students: Students of sub-Saharan African (Angola, Benin, Botswana, Burkina Faso, Burundi, Cameroon, Cape Verde, Central African Republic, Chad, Comoros, Congo (Brazzaville), Congo (Democratic Republic), Ivory Coast, Djibouti, Equatorial Guinea, Eritrea, Ethiopia, Gabon, Gambia, Ghana, Guinea, Guinea-Bissau, Kenya, Lesotho, Liberia, Madagascar, Malawi, Mali, Mauritania, Mauritius, Mozambique, Namibia, Niger, Nigeria, Rwanda, Sao Tome and Principe,Senegal,Seychelles, Sierra Leone, Somalia, South Africa, South Sudan, Sudan, Swaziland, Tanzania, Togo, Uganda, Zambia and Zimbabwe) countries can apply for this training fellowship.

This will be followed by a one-year professional attachment at one of the African centres associated with the research programme of the Tropical Epidemiology Group (TEG) at LSHTM. During the professional attachment, training Fellows will develop their statistical and research skills by working on studies with guidance from TEG staff.

Duration of award(s): It provides support for two years training in medical statistics. Selection criteria: A panel of staff from LSHTM will decide on a short-list of candidates based on the completed application form and references.

Notification: The short-listed candidates will be interviewed by telephone in May. The successful candidate will be informed shortly after the interviews have been completed.
