2016 Commonwealth Essay Competition for Young Writers of Commonwealth Origin


The Royal Commonwealth Commission has opened submissions for the 2016 Commonwealth Essay Competition. The competition started in 1883. It inspires thousands of young writers from all over the world. It is the world’s oldest and largest schools’ international writing competition.


The Commonwealth Essay Competition aims to celebrate and develop the creative talents of young people across the Commonwealth. In addition, it provides a platform for students to compete with their peers in each of the 54 nations which make up the Commonwealth.

The overarching theme for 2016 is ‘An Inclusive Commonwealth’, which is also the 2016 Commonwealth Year theme, and a topical theme for today’s youth.
